Labor Day weekend is the first day of September that celebrates the economic and social achievements of the American worker — but let’s be honest, as far as most of us are concerned it means one thing: another three- day weekend! This extra day off has us assiduously planning what we want to do and where we want to go. Labor Day is also considered the unofficial “last day of summer,” so be sure and send the season off on a high note! Take a look at this week’s top 5 pins to take advantage of the long weekend and these final days of summer.

1. Have Breakfast in Bed
Top 5 Pins: The Labor Day Adventurer

We often find ourselves racing the clock when it comes to the weekdays. We snooze our alarms to squeeze in those extra minutes of sleep at the expense of the most important meal of the day  but this Monday, there’s no need to rush. Wake up and whip of some of your favorite breakfast items. Bring it to bed, turn on your favorite show, and revel in the fact you can just sit and do nothing today.

 Pinterest Contests 101: For Pinners

Why a Pinterest Contest?

Pinterest contests and sweepstakes are a great way to learn about new products, share your creative skills, and win great prizes. Pinterest contest prizes can be as small as a gift card to as large as a world trip — the possibilities are endless! By following these guidelines, the contest process should be a fun and easy way to get your hands on some amazing prizes and have fun.

To win a Pinterest contest you have to make a board that represents the brand’s aesthetics, tells a story, and connects with the brand through beautiful and high-quality pins.

Note: Don’t get a Pinterest contest confused with a Pinterest sweepstakes. A sweepstakes is won by luck when your name is chosen at random. A Pinterest contest is won by skill.

A Pinterest contest takes time, planning, and careful pinning to achieve a win. Follow these steps to increase your chances of winning a Pinterest contest and some awesome prizes – and don’t forget to have fun while doing it!

Check the Rules First

Before you jump right into making your board, first make sure you are eligible to enter. Sometimes there are geographic, age, or other demographic requirements or limitations.

HelloInterview: Meet Paul Duncan Art Director, Photographer, and Pinterest Influencer!Paul Duncan is an art director in advertising from Hertfordshire, England, just north of London. When he’s not designing for clients, collecting creative inspirations on Pinterest, or working on his favorite hobby – photography – he’s spending time with his family or traveling. His passion for all things creative, shared through his design, photography, travel, and advertising-driven boards, have earned him over 614,000 Pinterest followers!

When did you start using Pinterest and what inspired you to join?

I started using Pinterest from nearly the beginning. I used to have a great desktop app for gathering creative inspiration and I found this incredibly useful for my job, and the hoarder in me enjoyed it too. When Pinterest came along I was instantly interested, since I already had this collection built on my desktop that only I could access. I could see that with Pinterest I could share what inspired me with others and at the same time be inspired by other people’s collections.

Why do you like Pinterest?

The sharing aspect of Pinterest has made it a lot easier to find great inspiration and cool stuff. I follow a broad selection of boards and I like that there is a huge variety of interests and some very niché collections out there. It makes cross disciplinary inspiration much easier to come by.

 Pinterest Contests 101: For Brands

There is no black and white formula for Pinterest contests and sweepstakes but there are steps you can take while planning a Pinterest contest to make sure it’s timely, planned, promoted, executed, and followed-up with correctly.

1) Determine Your Main Goal

Do you want to increase Pinterest followers, sales, exposure of a new product, or collaborate with a specific brand, pinner, or blogger? Surely it’s a combination of the above, but determine what the main goal is for this upcoming Pinterest contest campaign.

2) Choose: Contest or Sweepstakes?

First and foremost, what is the difference between a contest and a sweepstakes? A contest is a competition where the winner is based off of talent, aka being the best voted entry to win. In a sweepstakes, the winner is based off of a random drawing, so long as their entry follows the rules you’ve set.

HelloInterview: Meet Cassandra Hartt Writer, College Student, and Pinterest Influencer!

Cassandra Hartt is a senior at Dartmouth College from Upstate New York. Her passion has been creative writing from an early age — and now she’s majoring in it! When she’s not writing or in class she can be found cooking with friends, reading, or on Pinterest sharing recipes, writing tips, tattoo designs and more to her 3M+ Pinterest followers!

When did you start using Pinterest and what drew you to making an account?

I started using Pinterest back in the fall of 2011. I was studying abroad in Scotland and it was my first time cooking for myself regularly, so Pinterest was first and foremost a place for me to discover and save recipes. Over time, it also became a site I use to consider different tattoo designs, find DIY projects, and keep track of places I’d like to travel to!

Why do you like Pinterest? What is your favorite board to pin on and why?

There’s so much cool content being created on the Internet. Pinterest is a great way to find and bookmark it. Through Pinterest I’ve discovered brands and blogs that I now follow regularly. Pinterest just has so many unique uses: you could use it for anything from planning a wedding to learning how to start your own business, to deciding which kind of dog you want.

c50558687c93bdd240916140d93f7ce0 HelloInterview: Meet Stephanie Duncan Mother, Lifestyle Blogger, and Pinterest Influencer!

Stephanie Duncan is a lifestyle blogger, wife and stay-at-home mom of two girls in Atlanta, GA. She’s currently dreaming of moving with her family to the City of Roses, Portland, OR, a move she hopes they’ll be able to make soon. After adopting their youngest daughter Sawyer, Stephanie has inspired and connected with many by sharing her infertility and adoption experiences on her blog LET IT BE. In her free time, Stephanie can be found at the yoga studio, in the kitchen making baby food, or at the local coffee shop. Her impeccable taste for fashion, art, healthy eating, and overall style has earned her over 160,000 Pinterest followers!

When did you start using Pinterest?

I started using Pinterest in February of 2011. I was immediately sucked in and not only loved repinning gorgeous images, but following them to the source. I enjoyed discovering beautifully curated small shops, young photographers and designers, and incredible blogs. I loved the process of selecting and arranging pictures, and the fact I could creatively collect and display these things with just a touch of a button was incredibly satisfying.

Why do you like Pinterest?

I love Pinterest now for completely different reasons than when I originally started. Somewhere along the way my interest shifted to the bigger picture. While I enjoy the beautiful images independently, what became more intriguing to me is the message and mood that they convey as a whole. I love to see the melting pot of pins from all the people that I follow and the combination of their inspirations in one space. It’s all so fascinating to me. I’m curious about what makes a pin successful or not and why some are universally liked and others completely ignored. I love the randomness of it all.

The world’s top chefs have the ability to transform simple flavors and textures into unique dining experiences for their guests. While becoming the next Iron Chef may be a little bit out of our league, it doesn’t mean we can’t experiment a little with our own cooking. In culinary arts, presentation is the first impression so be sure to make your dish look as appetizing as it tastes! For this week’s top 5 pins, we gathered some of our favorite desserts that have been creatively designed to trigger even the most modest sweet tooth.

1. Ice Cream Cone Cakes
 Top 5 Pins: Inspired Sweets

Your guests will be surprised after they take their first bite in this ice cream cone. This deceiving little dessert is actually a cupcake! The cupcake batter is baked in mini ice cream cones and the “ice cream” on top is actually a mint chocolate chip buttercream. Sounds delicious, right?
