When did you start using Pinterest and what inspired you to make an account?

Pinterest was still in its somewhat early stages when my sister told me about it and I decided to start an account to see what it was all about. I immediately came to appreciate the features of the site and began to pin photos of places I wanted to travel; it was then that I was first introduced to the lures of Pinterest DIY and started many of my own (occasionally successful) projects! The fact that I could centralize my ideas and inspirations all in one place and personalize each board to myself was very intriguing.

Whether you love Pinterest or not, it’s undeniable that the potential Pinterest has to change your life is significant… at least it was for me.

It all started in the summer of 2012. I discovered Pinterest after reading about it on Twitter and sent a request for an invite to pin. After a few days I got that exciting email that I could start pinning. I started with uncertainty and excitement and started by pinning a few cute animals, beautiful places I’ve traveled to, and foods I’d like to try making. Pinterest was still pretty new so most of the pins I’d scroll through were beautiful, high-quality photographs and I saw very few unappealing or promotional pins. As the weeks went by I got more and more hooked. By using Pinterest to organize inspiration boards for my internships and college classes, I was able to brainstorm with my teammates by sharing design styles, typography, past advertisements, and photography examples to spark creative campaign themes and unique ideas.

Pinterest is an exciting space to pinpoint your goals, figure out what steps you need to take to reach them, and motivate yourself to aspire towards bigger and better things. Whether you are striving to improve your physique, health and diet, career, home, love life, style, or baking skills, Pinterest has the inspirations to help you get there. The first step is exploring the Everything category and pinning your heart out! (more…)

Keegan Adriance is a talented wedding photographer and loving husband. He was born and raised in Michigan and recently moved to Minneapolis, Minnesota with his wife Kelsey. They started their wedding photography business Gentleman & A Lady in 2011 because they “love to be around people in love.” When he’s not shooting weddings, Keegan can be found outdoors camping, fishing, biking, or on a road trip adventure. Because of Keegan’s passion and experience with weddings, sleek aesthetic, and love for all things beautiful and unique, his Pinterest has accumulated over 843,000 Pinterest followers!

When did you start using Pinterest and what drew you to make an account?

I started using Pinterest a couple of years ago back in college. I was an art major and created boards strictly for inspiration for projects I was working on. I had a graphic design board, a couple of photography boards, and a style board. Things kind of just grew from there. I was pumped about having my own apartment so I created some interior space boards. I loved, and continue to love, helping Kels find new clothes so I created a women’s clothing board. She didn’t have her own account so she just looked at mine. From then on I’ve only created boards to further inspire me in every aspect of my life.

Two questions: 1) Have you seen the movie ‘Inception’? 2) Do you love sweets? If you answered ‘yes’ to both, then you’ll probably love this week’s Top 5 Pins post — it’s all about desserts … within other desserts! If you like the way that sounds (and seriously, who wouldn’t?!) then take a look at this week’s top 5 pins to see our favorite desserts stuffed in other desserts.

1. Peanut Butter Snickers Bar Chocolate Brownie

The nutty and nougaty goodness of a Snicker’s bar stuffed into a peanut butter chocolate brownie? Yes, please. If you’re not a fan of Snickers, then use a Kit-Kat or any other candy bar that piques your interest. You really can’t go wrong with a chocolate bar stuffed in a brownie.

Save Money With Pinterest

Pinterest can inspire people to not only get craftier, more fashionable, and make their dream homes a reality, but it can also help people save money in the process! Pinterest may seem like a time-suck to some, but if there is quality planning being done, it’s well worth your time! You can make visual lists, pin images of your goals, and see easy-to-follow DIY steps on products you need but can make at home easily and for much less money.

The following list shares unique and easy DIY projects people can create to check off their to-do lists all while spending less money than they would at the store.

DIY: FOOD

Instead of going out to eat, make your own homemade versions of your favorite restaurant foods. Doing this can save your family a ton of money and bring you closer together through the joy of cooking. Buying coffee is also a treat but shouldn’t be in your regular routine if you’re trying to save money. Check out this homemade pumpkin spice latte recipe, perfect for the quickly approaching fall season! (more…)

Sisters Rebeca (left) and Raquel (right) Raney grew up in Miami, Florida. Nowadays, Raquel still lives in Miami as a designer with her Boston terrier Feather and Rebeca is in New York City cuddling her two-week-old daughter Ray. When they’re not designing, creating art or pinning, the Raney sisters can be found watching movies, going out to eat, people watching, or searching for the perfect fabric or color. The Raney sisters’ creativity, fun spirits, and talented design skills have earned them over 1.3M Pinterest followers! We recently caught up with Raquel Raney to learn more about the Raneytown design aesthetic, their daily lives, and their success with Pinterest!

So Raquel, how did Raneytown get started? What inspired the brand?

I owned a successful design studio in Arizona but over time there was a natural transition and a change felt right, so my sister and I decided to collaborate making a new and exciting Raneytown! This summer we were together in Miami and the last time we were together was 10 years ago so it was great. My sister Rebeca already did art shows in New York called Raneytown but when we decided to start collaborating together it just organically molded into this amazing design brand.

Would you consider the two of you similar or different yet you complement one another?

I’m very tech and computer-savvy and my sister is very hands on so the two of us collaborating felt really organic. I do design and she does art. I tend to be a little too rigid and I like things organized and small. She sees it more from an artist’s perspective. She’ll be like, “I like the edges off a little let’s make it huge.” So she helps me see some other options and I help her with digital. It works well because I know her work aesthetic so well that it came really naturally to us.  (more…)

At one point in your life, you’ve heard that old saying ,“See a penny, pick it up. All day long you’ll have good luck.” Well today is Friday the 13th and there’s no better time to put some of those old superstitions to use. For many of you, it’s just another normal Friday while for others, it’s one of those days when you triple-check if you’ve turned off your stove before you leave the house and set five alarms for work. Superstitions have been around for hundreds of years, and some of them have some lingering influence on our everyday decisions. For this week’s top 5 pins, we thought we’d cover some old superstitious charms people have used for bad luck over the years. Besides, you can never be too lucky or too careful!

1. Four-Leaf Clovers

Each leaf symbolizes faith, love, and hope, but the fourth leaf always represents luck. Have you ever been lucky enough to find a four leaf clover? It is said for every 10,000 three leaf clovers, there is only 1 four leaf clover, so it’s no surprise if your search was never very fruitful. Keep searching though! Persistence never fails.

For brands that provide services or products that aren’t very pin-worthy, Pinterest may seem unnecessary. But keep in mind that staying top-of-mind with consumers is essential on all platforms and Pinterest is no exception. For a company like Lowe’s or Home Depot, their products are primarily tools, home appliances, and services like carpet installation, appliance installation, home painting, and more. When approaching Pinterest, it’s important to consider what your products can bring to the table and why people would want to pin, repin, and learn more about your products and services.

By taking on the challenge creatively, a home store can share DIY projects with before and after visual examples, instructographics, and beautiful photos of renovated homes to inspire their customers to get in the store and stop procrastinating that bathroom renovation they’ve been putting off.

For companies that are primarily service-based, like a bank for example, it’s important to think outside of the box when planning Pinterest boards and promotions. The key is to share why their service is useful to customers and to give those benefits a visual story.

Capital One has done a good job of using Pinterest to engage followers. Their Pinterest shares mostly bucket list and travel pins visually communicating how their Venture credit card can help pinners check off their travel bucket lists by making their dream trips a reality with double miles on every purchase. They ask pinners to make a Bucket List board and pin from their The Venture #BucketList board. By incorporating this campaign on their Tumblr, Instagram, Twitter, and Facebook, their consumers will be exposed to all of the possible personalized benefits this product can give them in different ways across different platforms.

We’ve collaborated with a lot of brands who’ve teamed up with our tastemakers to promote their products and services on Pinterest in many different ways. The great thing about Pinterest is that it can be used in many different ways and since every brand is different it’s a match in heaven. (more…)

Teodorik has always been passionate about writing and photography so recently he and a friend cofounded communiqué magazine, which is set to release very soon. Teodorik recently returned from London where he studied photography and new media at a university.

Teodorik’s passions for travel, design, and reading have earned him over 657,000 Pinterest followers!

When did you start using Pinterest and what drew you to make an account?

I started using Pinterest in 2010 after someone invited me on Twitter, when it was still invite-only. Before Pinterest I just downloaded inspirations to a folder on my computer without captions and I hated it because I could never find ‘who took this photo’ or ‘who made this chair.’ So I started to write captions under my pins and tried to only pin from original sites. I like Pinterest for it’s simplicity and for it’s well-organized boards.

You have gained over 658,000 followers. Very cool! So what makes your Pinterest unique?
