When did you start using Pinterest and what inspired you to make an account?

I started using Pinterest as a collaboration tool. My philosophy has always been collaboration and I think that collaborators in education is key to getting all of our students to the finish line. After I discovered Pinterest and its capabilities I was on cloud nine! Pinterest is the ultimate collaboration tool for educators all over the world.

Why do you like Pinterest?

It’s such an amazing tool for new teachers, without Pinterest it would have been a tad bit more difficult to teach concepts such as: inference, multiplication, and energy. Pinterest literally takes the four walls down in my classroom and opens up a world of creatively, collaboration, and strategies that helped me reach all students in my classroom. (more…)

HelloInterview: Meet Maureen Jordan Passionate About Acting, Reading Books, and Pinterest!

Meet Maureen Jordan from Gresham, Oregon. She lives with her husband, two kids, and two cats. When she’s not on Pinterest, she can be found reading – one of her main passions. Maureen also enjoys taking pictures and exploring Gresham finding new places to photograph!

Maureen’s passion for photography, fashion, architecture, animals, and cooking has earned her over 4.3 million Pinterest followers!

When did you start using Pinterest and what inspired you to make an account?

I started using Pinterest in early 2012. At first, I didn’t see why I would even need an account, and thought I’d just browse instead. Within a few days, I could see that creating that account would then mean you would have a place to keep all of your recipes, craft ideas, etc… so you could refer back to them later and requested an invitation to join Pinterest. I’ve been hooked ever since.

Why do you like Pinterest?

Oh my gosh! What’s not to like? There’s something about just mindlessly pinning that is actually rather relaxing and enjoyable – not to mention addicting.

You have gained over 4.3 million Pinterest followers! That is amazing! What makes your Pinterest unique?

I try to clean up extra or unrelated wording on pins I repin, or all caps – which just make it look like you’re shouting at people. I do try to pick nice vertical pins so my boards look nice. My boards are always organized alphabetically – I have to have them that way. Slight OCD issues maybe? Haha.

Also, I go through my boards almost daily and take a row and change the cover photos and then I’ll go try to find a few pins for each of the boards in that row so no board gets left behind.

Are you from Gresham, Oregon originally? What do you like about it there? (more…)

Case Study: Jetsetter Leading the Travel Category on Pinterest

Jetsetter is now the 3rd highest-followed brand Pinterest account, just behind L.L.Bean and Harper’s Bazaar and just ahead of Nordstrom with over 4.4 million Pinterest followers!  What is Jetsetter? Jetsetter is a travel site that allows you to book trips at exclusive rates. What makes Jetsetter’s Pinterest really unique is how quickly they gained their high following. From April 2012 to August 2012, Jetsetter grew from 2k followers to over 1 million followers. Is that amazing or what?

Jetsetter focuses almost every one of their Pinterest boards on travel. By having such a specific niche, with 53 boards and over 4,000 pins, Jetsetter has engaged travel-loving pinners across the world. What board are they famous for? Their ‘Daily Moment of Zen’ board has over 4.3 million followers and shares breathtaking views from places anyone would love to be at, at any moment.

Jetsetter having over four million followers on Pinterest is a little surprising since they only have 255k Facebook followers (and a Pinterest Facebook app!), 39k Twitter followers, and a little over 9k Instagram followers. So how did Jetsetter earn this many followers? When brands, especially when they’re not well known, gain a very high following quickly – it’s almost always due to luck of some sort, like a board being featured, and a good habit of pinning. So although Jetsetter’s virality was a little bit of luck, it was also a lot of great pinning, strong travel focus, along with a great Pinterest contest that made this all happen.

When I’m not working or on Pinterest? Is there such a thing? Just kidding, I really love exploring the city and all of the amazing places surrounding the Bay Area. My hubby and I love to hike and shop and check out local restaurants every chance we get.

When did you start using Pinterest and what inspired you to make an account?

I was invited to Pinterest back in 2010 and I’ve never looked back! At first, it was just really exciting to be invited to this exclusive club. Then, once I started to use it, Pinterest became second-nature to me. It was where I stored all of my inspiration — work, blog, style, food, everything! I honestly would have a hard time living without it.

Improve Your Pinterest Profile in 10 Minutes

For brands, bloggers, and regular pinners, it’s easy to improve your Pinterest profile for better interaction and a higher following in just 10 short minutes (or less!) Follow these steps to make sure your Pinterest is in tip-top shape. If your account is already optimized in that area, skip it and move on to the next.

Minute 1: Optimize board names

Unless your account has over 50k followers, it’s a good idea to name your boards something simple and likely to be searched. This can help increase the chances of your board showing up in board searches. Although “Summer Lovin’ – Had Me a Blast” is a cute name, it’s almost completely unlikely anyone would ever search that. Instead stick to something simple and 1 or 2 words max, like “Summer,” “ Summer Inspirations,” or “Summer Love,” at least until your account reaches a high-enough follower count.

Minute 2: Reorganize boards by relevance

Drag the most relevant boards to the top. This includes upcoming holidays, current seasons, boards that are most relevant to your company, or your favorite topics at the moment.

Minute 3: Connect Pinterest with your Twitter

It’s quick and easy to attach your Twitter profile to your Pinterest. It’s always a great idea to cross promote social accounts. Increase your Twitter followers while building a stronger fanbase! It’s also completely optional to have your Twitter automatically post each pin you share. We recommend having that turned off so it’s not overwhelming to your Twitter followers.

Minute 4: Make sure each board is correctly categorized (more…)
